Anti wrinkle injections – Botox®

Botox® is the most widely used treatment in the U.K. for smoothing wrinkles and facial lines, mainly on the forehead, between the eyes (frown lines) at the top of the nose and around the eyes (crow’s feet.) It is non-permanent and has safely been used within medical practice for over thirty years with no long- term side effects. Botox® is administered by giving a series of tiny injections which takes a matter of minutes to do and is usually painless. Afterwards you are able to return to normal activities and work straight away with no initial signs that you have had any form of treatment (other than a gradual smoothing of your lines over the following days).

FAQ's

What is Botox®?
Botox® is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium.

Is Botox® safe?
Yes. Botox® has been used for over 30 years for a variety of different conditions, with no long term problems or side effects.

How does Botox® work?
Botox® is injected using tiny needles into the muscles of the face that are responsible for the line or wrinkle. There, the Botox® prevents the release of a chemical called acetylcholine which is responsible for causing the muscle to contract. This will cause the muscle to relax thereby causing the line or wrinkle to diminish or disappear so causing a natural relaxed look.

Does Botox® hurt?
Usually No. As the needles used are so fine most people report only very mild temporary discomfort, if any at all. We use topical application of ice to numb the skin.

Who is suitable for Botox® (Vistabel®)
At your consultation a full medical history will be obtained and your face assessed as to the suitability of Botox® (Vistabel®) or other treatments. Patients should not fly within 24 hours of receiving Botox® treatment.

How long will Botox® last?
Improvement usually starts after around 2-4days, with the greatest improvement achieved by 2 weeks. The effect will usually last 3-5 months. Subsequent injections tend to work better and last longer.

What happens if I don't have a follow up treatment of Botox®?
If you don't have a follow up treatment, your face will gradually return to its original pre-treatment state.

Can I return to work afterwards?
After the injection there are no restrictions on driving or returning to work etc. We can offer lunchtime treatments to fit into peoples busy schedules. We However, as some people may experience some localised bruising or swelling (which usually settles in 1-2 hours) they may prefer not to return to work straight after.
