Dermal Fillers

As we age, our skin gradually loses its natural elasticity which can lead to the areas, particularly around the lips and nose, to appear more folded and wrinkled. At Greenwood Clinic we use one of the most popular dermal filler products on the market Juvederm ultra®.
It's a natural, biodegradable gel that flows easily and smoothly into your skin, instantly filling out those troublesome lines leaving a smooth and natural look. So, you'll notice an immediate difference after just one treatment.

FAQ's
Are They Safe?
Yes. They are made from a gel containing water and hyaluronic acid which is a substance that occurs naturally in the body. This means that they are completely natural and safe. Over 700,000 of the treatments have been given worldwide.

How do they work?
Dermal fillers work by replacing your skin's lost Hyaluronic Acid, moisturising your skin from the inside and helping to give it elasticity and tone. It can quickly restore your skin's lost volume and smooth away those facial lines.

Does it hurt?
Sometimes, some of the injections can be a bit uncomfortable, therefore we usually use a local anaesthetic cream prior to treatment. Treatments done on the lips can be quite sore so we usually give a local anaesthetic injection before treatments for these. Please feel free to discuss this with one of our doctors.

Who is suitable for treatment?
At your consultation a full medical history will be taken and your face examined and assessed as to the suitability of using fillers. It isn’t suitable for those who are pregnant of breastfeeding or has been treated with the drug roaccutane (usually used for treating acne) in the last 12 months. It is best to wait for 6 weeks after a skin resurfacing treatment such as dermabrasion of a chemical peel.

Can they be used in combination with other treatments?
Yes. Fillers can be used after a surgical face lift or in combination Botox or after a chemical peel (after a period of 6 weeks.) It is not recommended to use them with permanent implants or with other fillers until they have naturally broken down.

How long will they last?
The gel gradually breaks down, so the effect will last anything from 6 to 12 months-this being dependant on a variety of factors such as your age, skin type muscle activity etc.

What happens if I don’t have a follow up treatment?
If you don't have a follow up treatment, your face will gradually return to its original pre treatment state.

Can I return to work afterwards?
After the treatment there are no restrictions on driving or returning to work etc. However as some people may experience some localised swelling or bruising, they may prefer not to return to work straight away.

Are there any side effects?
After the injection there may be some localised swelling, tenderness and redness of the skin around where it was treated, there may also be some bruising.  This can last a few days though it may be a little longer for treatment of the lips.

Different types of fillers and techniques are used to create the effect you desire. Dr Moncrieff will assess and decide on the correct proceedure to use to produce the best results.

As part of our commitment to patient care, we always review all our dermal filler patients in 2 weeks. This way we can ensure patient satisfaction and if required will provide top ups or adjustments to treatment at no extra cost.
