Sweating is necessary to control your body temperature in warm or hot weather, or when exercising. On average we lose over a litre of sweat a day. But around 1% of the population sweat excessively at times. This condition is known as hyperhidrosis.
Hyperhidrosis usually causes excessive sweating in the face, hands, feet and armpits. You may find the condition embarrassing, and worrying about how much you're sweating will often make it worse.
We can successfully treat axillary hyperhidrosis by injecting tiny amounts of botox® just under the skin which causes the sweat glands to produce less sweat.
Does it hurt?
There may be some discomfort as we usually need to do around 14-16 injections per axilla. It shouldn’t be painful as we use a very fine needle and pain relief isn’t required.
How long will the effects of the treatment last?
The benefits from botox® injections in the axilla can last between 6-12 months. There will be a gradual wearing off and your symptoms will gradually return to the pre treatment level.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects are fairly rare – you may experience some mild discomfort and bruising in the axilla, but this usually settles soon afterwards.
